The 2021 Harris Edwardes Interclub Competition is now complete. This year's competition was a great success, with 9 teams (40 players in total) participating -- 3 teams from Southern Suburbs Chess Club, 2 from Perth Chess Club, 2 from UWA Chess Association, and 1 from Metropolitan Chess Club.
Consistent results on all 4 boards saw UWA win Division A at its third attempt. This is the second time that UWA have won the Open Division, their first win being in 1974. The SSCC Division B team was successful for a seventh successive year, withstanding strong challenges from both Perth and Metro. A relatively new Southern Suburbs team was able to win convincingly in Division C, defending the trophy for a second year. Congratulations to the winning teams and well done to all club organisers who coordinated teams for this year's competition.

Division A was contested by 3 teams: one from Southern Suburbs Chess Club, one from UWA Chess Association, and one from Perth Chess Club. A Scheveningen-based format was used, whereby, for each team, team members played a total of 16 games, with 8 games played against players from each of the other two teams. For instance, a player who was assigned to Board 1 for Southern Suburbs A would play opponents assigned to Boards 1 and 2 from each of Perth A and UWA A. As there were no team matches in this format, the sum of players' individual game points is used to determine the winning team.
